As the needs of Minnesotans change, we need to do more than just keep up. We must leverage our expertise, experience and service data to lead through innovation.

Building on our entrepreneurial approach to mission-driven work for our neighbors, we envision an LSS that uses dedicated service design and measurement disciplines to rethink, reinvent, modernize and advance the next generation of our services.

The LSS Design Lab

Since its launch in 2024, the LSS Design Lab has partnered with over 25 lines of service, external collaborators, and neighbors-served to co-create innovative responses to complex social challenges.

The LSS Design Lab team accomplishes service innovations and expansions in the following ways.

Innovate and Optimize

Develop, test, evaluate and scale new service ideas and process improvements through a cost-efficient, rigorous process to optimize program capacity.

Foster Creativity and Engagement

Spark creativity and engagement among LSS employees and the communities we serve by soliciting ideas through an Incubator program to better address the needs of our neighbors and to pilot new ideas.

Improving Efficiency and Outcomes

Develop innovative solutions to improve operational efficiency, while improving outcomes and satisfaction for those we serve.

Data Intelligence

The critical investment in data intelligence and measurement made possible through the Empower What’s Possible campaign will support LSS’ commitment to continuous improvement. By expanding our technological capabilities, building broader data-collection infrastructure and investing in human capacity, LSS will be able to prove service effectiveness in new and meaningful ways.

Use data to guide decisions at all levels with accessible, sustainable and scalable practices.

Apply data analytics to create more effective and efficient services in the social service sector.
